Do You Have A Password Safe?
Use all the anti-virus software and anti-malware you want; if your password is stolen, you’re in big trouble. Some users just keep their passwords in a Word document or better yet taped to the bottom of their keyboards. You need to make sure you do not fall into this trap, because your valuable online assets are protected by these passwords. There are many programs available to keep track of your passwords but how safe are they? There are many free password programs that can and will send your passwords into the hands of hackers, so one needs to be careful. I have been using a password safe program for a few years and this is a very safe program. It is called KeePass.
This program offers a simple way to keep track of all your passwords while keeping them safe. It lets you store all of your passwords in a lightweight, simple-to-use database, and encrypts the database so that only you can access it. You can either lock it with a master password or file key.
KeePass Password Safe stores all your passwords in groups, so that it’s easy to find the one you want quickly. And the program does more than just store the passwords; it also lets you easily copy them onto a Web page or an application. You can drag and drop them, copy them to the clipboard, and copy them using a hot key. You can also easily search for passwords, and print and export them in a variety of formats, including TXT, HTML, XML and CSV files. You can import them as well.
The application can also generate hard-to-crack passwords for you, a very nice extra for those who want to make their passwords extra-secure.

The LIFE BLOOD of your computer is your hard drive. How can your protect and maintain it.
The hard drive on any computer is where all of your precious data resides. Many users just go about their PC business without giving any thought of what would happen if they all of a sudden lost all of their financial records, music, family pictures, resumes and more.
The hard drive has many mechanical parts inside and the average life of those parts wearing out is 5 years. The problem is it can happen anytime and it will usually be at the most inconvenient time.
The two things you need to do;
1: Protect your hard drive with on-line backups.
2:Do maintenance on them to keep them running at their peak performance.
Caring your hard drive takes just a few minutes each month and with an online automatic backup system should your hard drive be stolen or destroyed a simple click will restore all of your lost data.
1. On-Line Backups
Backups are essential for keeping your data safe. What I recommend is on-line backups and this is why. You need to protect yourself against any kind of disaster not just a broken hard drive. It could be a fire, a thief, or a tornado. The product I recommend is Carbonite; you will get an unlimited amount of space for your backups and the cost is $59 a year, less than $5 a month and it does it automatically everyday. To restore is as easy as a click of a button. Check it out here www.carbonite.com.
2. How do you maintain your hard drive?
All windows based PC’s have a utility to check the hard drive for errors and to make sure your data is not corrupt. It is called chkdsk and this is how you run it.
1. Open the Start Menu.
2. Click on the Computer button.
3. Right click on your hard drive and click on Properties.
4. Click on the Tools tab.
5. Click on Check Now under the Error checking section. (See circled in red below)
6. Click on Continue in the UAC prompt.
7. Make sure both options are checked. (See screenshot below)
NOTE: The Automatically fix file system errors box will be checked by default.
8. Click on the Start button.
9. You will get a pop-up window saying, “Windows can’t check this disk while it’s use”. (See screenshot below)
10. Click on the Schedule disk check button for chkdsk to run the next time you restart your computer.
The next time your PC reboots, it will perform this disk checkup to make sure your hard drive is working properly. I recommend your do this every 3 months. If you need any assistance contact me 509-385-4923
